La Belle Dimanche is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted festivals in Savoie's traditional heritage.
It celebrates shepherds and their flocks, as well as traditional crafts, to the delight of all.
The festival at Plaine Dranse begins with the arrival of the herds. This is followed by an open-air mass with the traditional blessing of the herds and shepherds.
Throughout the day you will be able to wander among the many stalls where artisans of all kinds will be displaying their creations: paintings and woodcarvings, bell founders, natural and artisanal products, decorative objects, pottery, jewellery....
The various associations in Châtel will also be offering games and entertainment, as well as refreshment stalls...
The musical atmosphere is provided by a number of music groups performing at different points throughout the day: folk groups, alphorns, brass bands...
There's also a souvenir shop at the Welcome and Information point.
Access to the festival is by foot, chairlift or free shuttle bus. Cars are absolutely forbidden. Throughout the day, free shuttle buses run from the village to Pré la Joux, then from Pré la Joux to Plaine-Dranse, from 8.30am to 7.30pm. The Pierre Longue chairlift operates from 8am to 5.30pm.
